Re: PCB layout - DaveBMW
How about fiting two TPIC8101 or HIP9011 knock sensor ICs on the board? it may well end up having one, it would require a link to the XDP, I think on the SPPI that will need writing into the code, thats quite a bit out of my programming abilities at the moment. But for now, as a safety net, a more ...

Re: Knock sensing ideas and circuit designs
I know PIC's allow ICP, but I seem to recall it requires wierd-ish voltages that we might not have. the programming voltages are 0V, 5V, 12V put in on the MCLR pin to select reset, run or program. I am currently playing with the PIC18F4550, it has loads of potential this cool little microcontroller...

Re: PCB layout - DaveBMW
Fred, Eh???? Update: I have been working on a side project for work and for home use, its basically a PIC18F4550 used as a USB DAQ for connection to a PC to provide 8 digital inputs, 8 digital outputs, 8-10 Analogue inputs, 4 Analogue outputs, 4 PWM outputs or capture and compare inputs. The initial...

Re: Separating the power and signal grounds on a V3 board
what about the anodes of D6 and D20? Shouldn't these be pulled off the ground plane as well? Also, if you do not install the current limiting stuff (Note 1 on the schematics) or the PWM stuff (Note 3), the modifications become even less complicated or invasive. You do not have R37 or R38, nor do yo...

Re: Choosing a crank trigger/wheel
My Stock BMW VR sensor and 60-2 wheel combo works very well. The only issue i had was connecting it round the wrong way so that a tooth = negative going half of a sine wave so the whole timing was out by 6 degrees. I found that using a signal generator and a scope I was able to set the zero crossing...

Brilliant, I wan't a couple as Guard Dino's to fend off the local scumbags (of which there are many)
would they come with suitably strong leashes for taking walkies??
lol

Re: Ion Sensing ideas and circuit designs
There are loads of driver chips available from nearly all Semi manufacturers that have tried and tested designs in their application notes and data sheets. Linear Technologies being quite a favourite as they have a spice based free simulation program with their devices modelled ready for designing. ...

Re: Knock sensing ideas and circuit designs
Just an idea but wouldn't it be cool if we could program a PIC to perform the filtering and pick out the knock from the noise?? I have an ICD2 programmer at home that I have been dying to use on something but never had the time to sit down and teach myself PICish. That way the parameters could be al...
