Re: FreeBOMBS

and to be fair, I don't know the values needed for the thermistors. The schematic shows a recommended circuit by Bosch that I've used for some time in my car, however, that circuit raised discussions, and I no longer know what values it should have. Fred said that it depends on the thermistor you h...

Re: FreeBOMBS

AN is the circuit for one general purpose analog input. Its just a couple of resistors that you already have if you have MAP, for example.. I didn't put much time to resistors and caps. What I told over and over is to buy those passives in multiples of 10, so you can have some flexibility with the b...

Re: BOM straightening

1. MOSFETS What jharvey said. As long it has a logic input, protected and enough current, its fine. 2. EGT Jared, Abe will change the 5v suuply for a 12v supply coming from a regulator. Abe, the regulator is ok. the driver don't need that much current. 3. MAP Using a different sensor is up to you, f...

Re: Why The Latest Changes To Spin 2 Don't Worry Jared

A small comment: The board by default is going to have high Z, using an SMD transistor. If I make boards for argentina, they must be assembled here (because of customs restrictions) The case is probably going to be the Cinch one, its hard to find an appropriate case, or at least expensive. I think i...

Re: RFC: Switching mode power supply schematics

Mmm, lets add some info: Connecting the probe in the leads of the 10ohm load, and connecting only the ground terminal of the power supply (0v connected 15v disconnected) the noise was there. That behavior got better when I changed the probe for a better one, so its not a problem of the SMPS, but of ...

Re: Look at my voltage regulator circuit design

I see the schematic saying CPU regulator. If this one only supplies the MCU, you are fine. If it supplies the whole board, you might be a bit under the expected maximum. Anyway, it depends on how much stuff you plug in the board. For example, the MCU alone can draw around 250mA, and analog sensors a...

Re: RFC: Switching mode power supply schematics

The oscilloscope is a Phillips PM3055, 50MHz, with a 100MHz probe, and it was warm. The issue was in the power supply, too much noise. Doing the same thing in the car gave some much better measurements: After the 5v MCU regulator, with 500mA load: https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/clbXn22wXFwe2B...

Re: RFC: Switching mode power supply schematics

If the huge cap is an electro, Jared is almost certainly right. Their high frequency performance is very bad, usually. Indeed, I was trying out the extremes. With and without the huge cap is pretty much the same, but I can't see accurately inside that much noise. Keen to get the car battery out for...

Re: RFC: Switching mode power supply schematics

Ok, i did some testing. Fortunately I didn't post it, because it would have been a waste of time. I measured 60mV of ripple at high loads, but it was because of the oscilloscope probe. Right now, the other probe gives me 20mV of noise coming from somewhere, with the board connected but not powered t...

Re: Why The Latest Changes To Spin 2 Don't Worry Jared

I think I can't thank Jared enough for his backup. I also feel that Fred is being dictatorial and unsupportive, at least with me and the people that doesn't think his way (Its a fu**ing feeling, don't lose time commenting or deleting this). SMD stuff is mostly because of the reliability against vibr...
