I wanted to write a plugin for it and the developer was not at all friendly and quite smug about his golden turd.
Unfortunately its the only thing I can log my 2A0 with at the moment.

not to hijack further, but I doubt it. it's not fast enough. if you've ever seen a high volume assembly line, there are usually multiple pick-n-place machines per paste machine and the paste machine is throttled down :). most places include a solder stencil for free (or free if you ask for it - some places do not advertise this fact) .. just do that next time. piece of cake.

I'd rather build efficiency than bloat at this level. Sounds like a plan, and is probably something easily abstracted for future windows support. I'll start looking through dave's code for guidance.

I've got the tools to load anything, but in the end we probably need some way to be self sustaining. I don't mind being part of that boostrap process since I have those tools.

not really, it's been a long time. I remember the days of dialing into motorola's bbs before they put stuff up on the internet... it was shortly after that transition they stopped providing any support at all. It's probably hard for you because if you haven't seen the particular tools you're looking...

freescale is not a toolset vendor (and never was) .. don't blame them. They contract out all of their toolset requirements to 3rd parties and those are the people you need to blame.
