Re: Silver Circuits vs. Chinese Puma
I heard them recommended enough times from enough colleagues that I finally surrendered and recently had a few jobs made through OurPCB. Their work was top shelf. As good as anything I've ever had made in the states. My primary one-stop vendor for nearly 20 years is Advanced Circuits. But as often I...

Re: Freescale is planning an Open Source ECU
I just read this in the Freescale blog entry: "So now it’s over to you. Please take a look at your past and planned projects, provide a suggestion, or just cast a vote. Otherwise all you’ll get is Gerber files. And where’s the fun in that?" In context, the excerpt is saying that Freescale ...

Re: Freescale is planning an Open Source ECU
Jared, I've never seen a single IC that you couldn't get just one of. Freescale usually provides free no-purchase-required gerbers, but if for some reason they don't, at least the schematics will be open source. They will be free, downloadable, and in the usual form of a schematic. I get you'd like ...

Re: Freescale is planning an Open Source ECU
How about the gerbers? Is it "open source" at all? I don't think so. An absolute minimum requirement for an open source hardware platform would be schematics + gerbers such that more boards can be printed. The schematics are sufficient to comply with the Open Source definition. Gerbers ar...

Re: Spin 2 Low-Z testing
Thanks Marcos. It sounded like you were saying that the LM1949 was being driven with a PWM peak & hold signal from the ARM. I get it now. That 2ohm resistor, is that a series shunt resistor to measure the current? If so I think the value might be too high. :-) I mean, if the injectors are 3ohms ...

Re: Freescale is planning an Open Source ECU
Yes, I will publish schematics How about the gerbers? Is it "open source" at all? I don't think so. It's just marketing hype. Freescale and MegaSquirt are in each others back pockets anyway, and always were! Freescale puts gerber images of their development boards into datasheets. The act...

Re: Freescale is planning an Open Source ECU
I don't think many developers will really want to jump in on it, as it's only 4 cyl, and you can't really make repairs. If you break about any chip on it, you can't currently buy a replacement chip. You'd have to buy another board, or qty 1k of the chip. Last I understood, it's likely to use that T...

Re: Freescale is planning an Open Source ECU
The Freescale project is not Open Source even though it includes schematics. Mike Garrard, a senior Powertrain Systems engineer from Freescale writes: June 20, 2011 Yes, I will publish schematics and there will be an open source version of code for the [DIY] folks to work with. Target price is $500 ...
