well its general, so i wanted to share about my favorite authors ,....!hope this thread would interest others too to post....!
I love F. Scott Fitzgerald. I just read The Great Gatsby...amazing read. And quick too, not even 185 pages. It's such an interesting portrayal of the Roaring Twenties; one that we're not really taught about in history classes. After WWI, America was dancing on top of the world. But this book captures the cynicism and materialism that plagues the American society and corrupts that thing that we like to call the "American Dream." I love his writing style. It's so poetically descriptive and his vocabulary is impressive but not overwhelming. I highly recommend it. And if you read it DO RESEARCH ON THE AUTHOR. It's FASCINATING to see the similarities between Fitzgerald's life and the book.
Khaled Housseini, the author of The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns is a WONDERFUL writer. My favorite thing about his writing style is the way that he incorporates the Afghan culture and language into his English writing. He uses foreign words in contexts that allow you to know JUST what he's talking about, and it's a beautiful dose of culture and a powerful dose of reality. Those two books are BY FAR the two most painful but rewarding reads ever. It's very much like stabbing yourself in the stomach with a salt covered rusty blade every time you turn the page...but it's more than worth it.
Oscar Wilde - he writes in pure poetry. Enough said. Reading his words is like getting a professional massage on your eyes.

Re: Who's your favorite Writer?
Douglas Adams changed my life. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy "trilogy" is held close to my heart. I finished the 5th book on the day he died. No joke. The fact that he wrote several of the scripts for the 4th doctor episodes doesnt hurt either.
Frank Herbert is also one of my favorites. The Dune series doesnt suck.

This is true, they're fantastic reads! :-)Robb wrote:Douglas Adams changed my life. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy "trilogy" is held close to my heart.
Also worth a mention are:
Catch22 - Joseph Heller, though the sequel is crap.
Virtually all of Kurt Vonnegut's books are awesome.
Thanks to my best friend who took it upon himself to enlighten me, I also own:
Crime and Punishment - Theodor Dostoevsky
The complete works of Oscar Wilde
Poetry:
Edgar Allan Poe - The Raven
The Wasteland - T.S. Eliot
That'll do for now :-)
