I fucking love Chocos.
On another note those speakers are looking damm sexy, function over form style.

My sexual preferences are for form-follows-function designs, too ;-)masterkorp wrote:function over form style.

Those are pretty freakin' sweet Fred. Even if form was an issue, not hard to make like the big kids of speaker manufacture and throw some veneer over 'em
Re: Cheapish HiFi Bookshelf Speakers Limited Tools NO Aesthe
Thanks man! As usual with me, the beauty is on the inside. I did upload, but did not find a permanent URL for, a bunch more pics. Might do that today and post them here :-)

Re: Cheapish HiFi Bookshelf Speakers Limited Tools NO Aesthe
So, it's finally time for me to publish the build pics that I was too busy to publish back then! Today was more "off" than I thought, so I decided to get this over and done with!
Frustration
When the drivers arrived, I was so eager to listen to them, that I took some extreme measures as seen here:
Supplies
Then I picked up the MDF supplies and decided to mock up the shape!

Cut Outs
I used random circular objects to scribe the lines for cutting out the speaker holes and managed to get press fit tolerances free hand with a jigsaw with no compass.

Air Flow
To ensure maximum volumetric efficiency and minimum turbulence I smoothed those parts of the facia that I could to facilitate smoother air flow from the cone to the chamber, and back.
Nuts In Holes
Then I drilled the mounting holes and pulled the nuts into the MDF. Not quite as good as proper T nuts, but it sufficed, except for one, which you'll see later... Benefit of the above clearancing visible in the last pic.

Death By Wife
I may have broken the handle off of her little frying pan in the process, but it was such a good fit, how could I not have?
Corner Reinforcement
It was time to fit up the first of the pine corner reinforcements, looking good!
Clean Up
Then it was time to clean up. Did I mention the wife was out of town while the cat played? You didn't see the "in-progress" pics, but I assure you, it looked NOTHING like this. She'd never know, right? Wrong, forgot to dust off the leaves of the plant. Woops :-)

Super Glue Rescue
To reduce the chances of spinning a nut in the wood during assembly I decided to harden the MDF by soaking it in superglue.
Bring In The Reinforcements
Time to slice up the rest of the 20x20 pine for the corners and braces.
