Protege is nogo. It wasn't the fuel pump. Concentrating on getting #14 back up and running and to daily-driver status, so I'm out of the running
Re: The Official Who's Next Discussion Thread!
What *was* the problem then? An engine like that should be a piece of cake. It ran, and died, there are only so many things that can stop it from running on:malcom2073 wrote:Protege is nogo. It wasn't the fuel pump.
1) Siezed
2) No air
3) No fuel
4) No sparks
5) Blocked exhaust
1&5 are ruled out by your OEM setup working.
2 could be some sort of DBW or aggressively closed idle valve.
3 you pretty much ruled out
4 you pretty much ruled out
Did you ever give it force bleed of air?

Re: The Official Who's Next Discussion Thread!
Yes, I cracked the throttle at a couple different values, once it opened beyond a certain point it wouldn't start at all.
My best guess is that I'm not driving the ignitor drivers high enough to actually run, it'll start, but not run on it. OEM drives them to 12v, not 5v which is the biggest issue I can see.
I have fuel (according to fuel pressure and LA on the Jag outputs), and I have SOME spark according to a timing light, but like I said it may not be enough.

Then throw a FET driver IC at it and try again? Seems too easy. I had to do that to the hotel to get it running right when I got back. Took me about half an hour :-)

Good for you. I don't have the car torn apart so everything is easily accessible, plus I've already resoldered the Jag so it's hall effect RPM input again. My priority right now is getting the 87 working on FreeEMS and on the road, since my 88 has a cracked block and is out of commission for... possibly forever unless I magically find time and money to do an engine swap

I demand a new thread in this section! And I also demand that I upload the videos for said thread because you don't have them. Cough. The answer to life, the universe, and everything, minus 10.em_knaps wrote:crikey, its a bit quite in this thread.....
