Dan's PNP RB25DET R33 Skyline ECU PCB
Re: Dan's PNP RB25DET R33 Skyline ECU PCB
For desoldering a connector you could also use a heat gun.

Still difficult to get enough pins heated at the same time on those big ECU connectors.

Re: Dan's PNP RB25DET R33 Skyline ECU PCB
I use an electric skillet to reflow my little boards. The same principle should work for dismounting a connector - melt all the solder at once, lift off the device. You may need a helper to hold the board still.
Re: Dan's PNP RB25DET R33 Skyline ECU PCB
the 76-pin connector could be removed easily...
Re: Dan's PNP RB25DET R33 Skyline ECU PCB
OK so I have found the issue relating to why I cannot communicate via the BDM interface.
I hate to admit this, but I soldered the damn cpu IC incorrectly oriented (ie. pin 1 was not where it should have been).
Several EPIC LOL's later at my n00b-ish failure, I managed to damage the pcb removing the cpu IC.
I had two alpha pcb's here, so I started fitting a new cpu IC to the second alpha pcb.
EPIC failure again as I managed to pick a damaged IC out of my component tray and didn't realise until I had soldered most of the pads.
I then proceeded to damage the second pcb whilst attempting to remove the cpu IC.
So...... long story short, I have identified the problem (which is me, the assembler, and not any fault of the pcb).
I will be pushing some minor changes to the pnp pcb in the very near future to correct some component placements that I don't like. (ie. they come close when fitted to the stock ecu enclosure)
More PCB's will be ordered after those changes are made and as a result of my n00b-ness....... (this will happen today/tomorrow)
Fuck I feel like a complete n00b........ shit happens I guess

I'm far from perfect LOL
I am happy it was my mistake and not a fault on the PCB though
Pushing changes soon and then I will be placing another small PCB order

Re: Dan's PNP RB25DET R33 Skyline ECU PCB
Decided not to do any changes to the alpha PCB design yet.
Just asked for a quote from my Australian PCB supplier.
Should be ordering another small pcb batch today!

Two more alpha boards are ordered! they are being shipped tomorrow, should have them Thursday *fingers crossed*
